lpga, almost

the aftie-girl started golf lessons!
she loved it and i heard a lot of comments from her coach like...
"good, afton!",  "oh, good one afton!"
so happy she finally found something she enjoys!

6th grade communication

here's our almost 6th grade sweetie checking in with her friends.
on facetime with one friend,
that friend has two friends on the phone,
on the speaker,
while comparing schedules on the laptop.
they were trying to figure out if they could facetime with 3 people.
is that possible?
if it isn't now, it will be in a month or two i'm sure!
aftie is super excited for school to start.
now if she only had tall brown boots with buckles to wear to school.
sigh.

dad's work party

a few weekends ago, we attended the annual honeywell family day at six flags/darien lake.
the girls look forward to this day all summer long.
honeywell is so generous to provide tickets and a catered lunch and fun prizes.
 where do we begin?
 this was a fun thing...
you have to pull yourself and seat partner up to the top, using the cables.
then you can let go and slide back down!
we drove the old cars, sailed through the air on the pirate ship, flew above the trees on the swings, and much, much more!
the best part of the day for ryan and i, was talking the girls into riding the crazy motorcycle ride.
we told them it wasn't scary, but we lied.
but not on purpose.
neither of us had ridden it before.
i should've known better when the sign in front of the ride was rated:
HIGH THRILL
afton said she would never trust us again.
hee, hee.

golf day

a couple of weeks ago we took an afternoon for some family golf time.
ryan and the girls had taken a trip to the sports pawn shop to find some kids clubs, earlier in the day.
so we headed over to the par3 course to try them out.
afton likes golfing enough to sign up for the golf team.
we went to sign her up, but unfortunately her mother didn't read the fine print, and she can't be on the team until 7th grade.
she was a bit disappointed, but maybe we can persuade her to take some private lessons to prepare for next fall.

we all had a fun time despite the humidity and warm temps, but it turns out that the best part of golfing is...deciding where to eat lunch while finishing up the 9th hole!

the place i swore i'd never go again...

i swore i'd never, ever, ever in a million years go to girls camp again.
i guess i shouldn't swear.
'cuz last week i went to girls camp.
"oh, i bet you had so much fun!", you say.
"nope.  still not that fun", i say.
it really wasn't that bad, but it really and truly is the last thing in the world i'd like to be doing.
if i could take all the girls and be at a lovely hotel somewhere, then i'd be happy with girls camp!
just don't enjoy the lack of sidewalks and my own bed.
luckily i had my bff, molly, with me.
she's fun and funny and doesn't exactly LOVE camp either.
so misery makes good company- or something like that.
now to gear up for next year, when my sweet aftie will join me!!!!

monopoly mania

the girls have become a tiny bit obsessed with monopoly.
we've had games go on for days!
at one point, ella had to pay $1400 dollars to afton in rent.
she was nearly wiped out, but luckily afton landed on north carolina ave (which had at least one hotel on it).
i just cleaned up and put away the latest game of monopoly which has been out for over 2 weeks!
the money and properties were still organized by player in neat little piles.
i'd advise against playing with ryan, who can be ruthless.
i thought i'd be kind and sell him north carolina ave, so he could complete his set.
what a huge mistake!
i don't think i'll ever be able to pay off my debt!

ella gets her teeth pulled...

poor ella!
she has a tiny mouth with too many teeth, just like her mama!
so, she had to have 4 of them pulled.
luckily she had a little "happy air",  and a movie to watch while the procedure was taking place.
we spent just over an hour at the office and then headed home to a soft bed on the couch, made by sissie.
many popsicles and a smoothie made ella a happy girl!
by noon she was happy as can be and ready to play.
and now, her crowded teeth are already beginning to move into the empty spaces.
the beginnings of a beautiful smile!
