an extra special mother's day

today was a glorious day, as I was able to share it with the girl who made me a mother.
it's the first time aftie's birthday and mother's day have been on the same day.
afton was born the evening before mother's day, 2001.
I've always told her that she was my very favorite mother's day gift!
I feel so lucky to have such a sweetheart for a daughter-
she was so kind and not too bothered to have to share all of the extra attention with me!
ryan and the girls brought me breakfast in bed.
then aftie climbed in bed with me and
ryan and ella ran back to the kitchen and brought afton breakfast in bed!
we have excellent service around here!
ellie-belle gave me beautiful tulips, a carefully made card, a fill-in-the-blank questionnaire about me and a door-hanger with her darling school picture on it.
ella had forgotten to bring money to school on Friday so she could buy me flowers at the mother's day plant sale.
she was very sad after school and those big brown eyes were a little watery.
luckily she has a dad who does everything he can to make his girls happy, and they ran to the store to buy me the lovely bouquet of tulips last night.
although I'd never turn down diamonds and rubies...I find a different kind of value in the extra efforts and handmade cards the girls make.
they are truly priceless.
afton spent part of yesterday at the mall with her dear friend, ashlan.
they had a great time being grown up and shopping on their own.
of course, ashlan's mom was shopping as well, and checked in with the girls periodically.
(lest you think we would send our little darlings off to the big, bad mall without motherly supervision!)
my ever-observant aftie, spotted the newly opened papyrus store
(I had been excited to see it was opening soon the last time we were at this mall)
and found a darling little bauble for my keyring.
she's being reared in all the right shopping ways.
she also bought me flowers from the mother's day plant sale at school.
ryan and the girls had one more surprise for me...
a hot pink beach-cruiser!
my new bike is so cute, and even has a basket on the front!
the girls said I am not allowed to accompany them to school on it, but i'll make them ride with me to the frozen yogurt shop this summer!
they'll do it because they can't resist frozen yogurt.
it was a great day filled with extra love, hugs and kisses!

birthday time!

we can't believe it!
our aftie girl turned 12 years old today!
to celebrate her birthday we had a little birthday gathering on Friday night.
aftie wanted to have a "craft party".
the girls painted glass tumblers, ate pizza, opened presents, laughed, made portable coloring kits from empty dvd cases (check them out on my pinterest board),
ate cake and ice cream, laughed more, and watched "wreck-it ralph".
many hours of fun and loud voices!
this morning we found our front door had been "heart-attacked" by the beehives (12 year old girls from church) to welcome afton to their young women's group.
she was sooooo excited and loved seeing all of the cute notes they had written.
such sweet, cute girls!
and here she is...
our beautiful 12 year old!

softball season. our first.

our sweeties decided they'd like to try out softball this spring.  i was a bit skeptical at first, but it's turning out to be a great spring!
and we're at the fields so often that we are really soaking up the sun!
here's our belle at her first practice.
an official softball player-with all the right gear...
cleats, red tie-dye socks, pants, jersey, hat, bat, helmet, glove and last but not least-a super cute bag to carry it all in!
our little "Seadog" taking a quick water break.
and here's our aftie-girl at her first game!
she's a "Philly"
she thought it was funny to be on a horse team, but then she realized...
we've got a consistent hitter on our hands!
this weekend afton's team played over 2 hours, and 7 innings!
they were all worn out but beat the socks right off the opposing team.
aftie had 3 great hits and struck out once,
but we all thought the ump was calling the pitches a little high :)
great job to our girls!
