doughnuts with dad

ella invited her dad to "doughnuts with dad" today. all the kindergarten kids got to invite their dad or a special guest to come to school and have doughnuts this morning. here are some comments from ella about this big day...
"mrs. tripi said the dads could just come at 8:30, or if the dad drops you off, he has to wait in the hall until after the announcements. i'll tell dad just to come at 8:30"
later in the day...
"dad, can you just take me to school? you can just wait in the hall until it's time for donuts with dad."
e-"dad's gonna have coffee."
me-"oh, i don't think dad will have coffee, cause he doesn't drink coffee."
e-"no! mrs. tripi said that milk is for all the kids and coffee is for the dads."
me-"oh, well dad could just have some water or something."
e-"no! mrs. tripi said the dads will have coffee."
me-"but elle, we don't drink coffee"
e-"oh."
"i'm gonna go set out my clothes tonite, so they'll be all ready for the morning for donuts with dad!"
hope the 45 minute "donuts with dad" was as exciting as she was hoping!

my dad would be proud

dad,
i think you'd be proud of me. i've really toughened up these last few years.
tonite i made dinner without even going to the store. i just used what i had. (a novel idea for me)
i've lived life without a cell phone for a few years. (glad that's over now!)
a ran from the parking lot into my radiation appointment today, even though i really, really didn't want to. but i knew i could do it, and i did. (my personal goal was to run from the parking lot into my radiation appointment each day, no matter how worn down i was feeling. my little way of staying strong.)
i've started putting on a sweater instead of turning up the thermostat.
i've been trying to say no to the children every once in a while.
i even take the trash out once in a while without being asked!
thanks for trying to help me be tough when i was younger. i think the lesson has finally sunk in.
i can do hard things and i'll be okay.
love you dad.

family goals

our family decided to make a goal for each month of 2010. we choose the goal together and then work on it all together. for january we are exercising every weekday as a family for at least 20 minutes after dinner. so far we have played dance dance revolution a few times
we've measured our endurance, flexibility and strength

we've made up a crazy new game that involves throwing a ball to each other and switching places

and tonite we did a bit of yoga

tell me how you really feel

after a less than delicious dinner (tried a new recipe) i said i was sorry it was a disappointing dinner.
quietly, afton said, "for the second day in a row".

soooo, do you think it's terrible if...hypothetically speaking...some random person..was taking the ornaments off the christmas tree and thought to herself, i mean, themself...this tree could sure use a good dusting. and i don't mean a dusting of snow. just plain old pledge and a cloth.

guess it's time to take the christmas tree down.
